Jelena Ryvakina withdrew from Roland Garros, where she was scheduled to face Sala Sorribes Tormo for the top eight on Saturday. The Kazakhstan, ranked fourth in the world, is unwell and has a fever. “I wasn’t feeling well yesterday and the day before yesterday. I couldn’t sleep last night…” she explained at a press conference. “It’s the right decision to retire because it’s hard to play in these conditions. It’s frustrating not being able to play. That’s life…there are ups and downs.”
The Rome winner was one of the favorites to win the Grand Slam in Paris, so Rivakina’s absence is a big loss for the tournament.
