WhatsApp for Android: Access reactions to messages

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has started rolling out Message Reactions feature to some Android beta testers who have installed version 2.22.8.3 of the app.

In January, we learned that WhatsApp was working on bringing message reactions similar to the ones iMessage sees in its app. At that time, a specific button was added in version 22.2.72 of WhatsApp on iOS. Now, the feature is available for Android users. Of course, it is still a limited release and will be available to more users in the coming months.

As reported by WABetaInfo, there are six reactions available: Like, love, laugh, surprise, sad and thank you.

It is not yet clear if message reactions are available for group chats, individual chats, or both. On Telegram and Slack, you have conversations in both. WhatsApp could follow the same path.

The gap with Telegram

Over the past few months, we have been regularly hearing about new features coming to WhatsApp. Some critics believe that the Facebook-owned messaging app lags far behind its competitors when it comes to usability and adding new features. This is why WhatsApp has started developing many new features.

The list of features that can come to WhatsApp is quite long. However, the introduction of new drawing tools and a shortcut to searching messages to find specific messages is the most expected.

Also, a very useful feature present in the development queue is which allows you to take surveys. Telegram has allowed polls to be created since 2018, and it’s a very significant loophole that WhatsApp doesn’t have a similar feature.

This feature was spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS and may roll out to Android beta in the coming months. Due to the long waiting list for features in development, the functionality to create surveys may not appear in the stable releases anytime soon. Also, the source hints that creating polls is possible Only in groups and will be end-to-end encrypted.
