There was no mention of the Commissioner General of the Police, Annelies Verlinden assures

On Saturday, Het Nieuwsblad reported that the Commissioner General had been summoned by the Ministers of the Interior and Justice Annelies Verlinden and Vincent Van Quickenborne. Central to the interview: the difficulties of recruitment or the failure of the fight against the mafia in Antwerp. According to newspaper sources, Mr De Mesmaeker’s term of office, which expires in June, would not be extended.

“There was no assessment interview,” says Ms Verlinden to questions from Yngvild Ingels (N-VA) and Ortwin De Poortere (VB).

“We have not called the Commissioner General to order, and certainly not in the current circumstances,” added the minister, who denied that a climate of mistrust had developed between the political world and the police.
