The Gezinsbond refuses to abolish the SNCB rate for large families

The organization reminds in a press release “that it is the government that has the last word” and calls on “Minister Gilkinet to keep this discount to prevent the parents of three children and more from getting into trouble”.

The NMBS has announced a project to reduce its fares for all families with children in 2024. This measure would fit in with the simplification of tariff formulas. The discount would be an alternative to the current discount card for large families, which will disappear in 2024, according to the NMBS. The railway company therefore wants to offer an alternative in 2024 whereby everyone between the ages of 12 and 25 can benefit from a discount.

The Ligue des Familles said it was pleased “with the appearance of a special rate that will benefit all children”, and emphasized that “the communication from the NMBS has something to have doubts about”.

Contrary to what the NMBS claims, the large family card will not disappear in 2024. “This card offers reduced rates at the TEC and is recognized by a range of partners.” The League also regrets that parents of large families will no longer enjoy the SNCB discount. “So if they are not in the conditions to be beneficiaries of the increased intervention, they completely lose their 50% discount.” The League also points to the lack of precision about the announced future cut.
