Qualcomm will hold an event dedicated to 5G from May 9-11 that could serve as the stage for the presentation of the new Soc Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. According to colleagues at 91Mobiles who rely on information from Yogesh Brar, this review of the current model will arrive in the third quarter of 2022.
News that does not disturb the manufacturer’s roadmap because every year Qualcomm releases the Plus version mastering the SoC experience presented in December. This “early launch” will especially correct i Overheating issues seen in the current 8 Gen 1 release.
In fact, many insiders have noted performance issues due to poor temperature management on the processor, affecting the experience on some products, such as the US versions of the Samsung Galaxy S22. In this case, the problem would not be software in nature, but rather hardware in nature… which would encourage Qualcomm to release a revision of the 8th generation of the first as soon as possible, and change the foundry where it was built.
As already suggested by previous leaks, Qualcomm will sideline Samsung to give TSMC the reins. The Taiwanese foundry will supply the 8 Gen 1 Plus with a 4nm manufacturing process, to enable better power efficiency than that offered by Samsung Foundry currently.
Also according to Yogesh Brar, Lenovo, Motorola, OnePlus, and Xiaomi will be among the first companies to use this new chip, with phones launching as early as June. It now remains to be seen if the possible Motorola Razr 3, expected in this period, will be among the first to be equipped with it.
