Kevin De Bruyne, frustrated, does not understand his man of the match title after Belgium-Canada

The Red Devils did not shine against Canada, but left with the three points of victory. The only goal of the match came from Michy Batshuayi at the end of the first period. For the rest, Belgium did not show great things. Much to Kevin De Bruyne’s dismay.

“We have to try to play and sometimes we are afraid, I don’t know why…”, the rather perplexed midfielder launched. “I thought normally there was space in midfield. We had to play short to pass the pressing, but… We didn’t see our game in the 1st period, not at all, and only sometimes in the 2nd.”

Should we be concerned about this half-hearted performance, which follows a preparatory defeat against Egypt? “I don’t know,” continues De Bruyne, who admits to having become angry during the meeting. “I try to play good football, but sometimes it’s difficult because it’s so different between the club and the national team. We have to find solutions.”

Man of the match? “Maybe I was chosen because of my name…”

The Devil also responded to his title of man of the match. And of course he doesn’t really agree with those who awarded him this award. “I didn’t play a good game. Maybe I was chosen because of my name,” he replied to our colleagues from Het Nieuwsblad.
