And the official Chinese agency stated that the fire occurred “on Monday afternoon in a factory in the city of Anyang, in the central province of Henan,” without going into further details.
According to state media, emergency services were alerted to a fire at 4:22 pm (0822 GMT) at the Kaixinda Trading site.
“After receiving the alarm, the municipal fire department immediately sent teams to the scene,” state television said.
“Public security, emergency response services, city administration and power supply units rushed to the scene at the same time to carry out rescue and rescue operations,” she added, noting that the fire was extinguished at around 11:00 p.m.
Footage released by state media shows thick clouds of black smoke from the blaze, with at least two fire engines on the scene dousing the flames.
In addition to the 36 dead and two missing, two people were injured and taken to hospital, according to CCTV.
According to the authorities, two “criminal suspects” have been arrested in connection with the fire.
“According to the first elements, this incident was caused by irregular manipulation on the part of a company employee. An electric welding (operation) caused the fire,” state television broadcaster CCTV (CCTV) reported on the fire on Monday afternoon in Anyang, Henan Province.
