Faced with the energy crisis, the European Union is preparing to replenish gas reserves for the winter of 2023-2024

This Thursday, the Commission published the interim targets allocated to Member States to reach the 90% agreed last June.

States that do not have their own storage capacity must reserve 15% of their annual national consumption in other countries.

For the 18 Member States with reserves, intermediate targets have been set for 1 February, 1 May, 1 July and 1 September. For Belgium, the fill percentages at these deadlines should be 30%, 5%, 40% and 78% respectively, according to the Commission.

At the beginning of November, European reserves were 94.8% full. They should still be at 85% at the end of the year. The most recent figures (November 21) suggest that Belgian reserves are sufficiently filled.
