BMAX B5 Pro Review: A Mini PC With Amplified Hardware And Windows 11 On Board!

I think there isn’t a lot of information on the internet about mini computers, a class of devices that maybe a bit underestimated but which, personally, I find very interesting in different scenarios. Dario recently attempted a Jakecom mini air 11a fairly cheap product but it had a reason: on the one hand, I had the opportunity to try something a little more expensive and that could be considered really useful in many usage scenarios.

The protagonist is the BMAX B5 Pro, produced by a company with which we have already dealt in the past in technology with some tablets: the beauty of this little PC lies in the fact that it has abandoned the usual Celeron processor that characterizes part of these devices, and brings with it an Intel Core i5- 8260U.

Design and materials

BMAX B5 Pro It is a fairly traditional mini PC: it has very compact dimensions of 125 x 112 x 44 mm and is made entirely of plastic with a knurled finish in the upper part where the brand is clearly displayed. On the sides there is space for a lot of notches that do not go unnoticed and allow the mini computer to have a good ability to dissipate heat, while on the front are the inputs that are most useful in everyday life.

Starting from the left, in fact, there is a 3.5 mm jack for headphones, followed by a USB-C port and two USB A 3.0 ports, and the classic power button for power on, standby and forced restart of the device. On the back, however, there is a forced reset button, a MiniDP input, an HDMI port, two USB 2.0 ports, an RJ45 and a DC connector for power supply.

I found, at the bottom in line with the feet, four threaded inserts that allow us to attach the miniPC directly behind the monitor to be very clever: this is the classic VESA format available on almost all monitors and TVs that, in fact, allows us to mount this PC in a completely invisible way , due to its extremely small size.

As I expected at the beginning, what makes the BMAX B5 Pro different from almost all its competitors on the market is, in fact, the hardware it is equipped with: the company, in fact, unlike its competitors increasingly targets the Celeron N5095, a newer processor but limited by In terms of performance, he preferred to start with a more interesting CPU such as the Intel Core i5-8260U. More geeks will know that this i5 is actually more outdated than the more mainstream Celeron solution, but in terms of performance it guarantees about 40% higher performance for the same consumption, since they both have a TDP of 15W.

The CPU, however, is a quad-core (8-thread) with a maximum clock of 1.6GHz and a Turbo speed of 3.9GHz and is flanked by 16GB of DDR4 RAM (which can be expanded up to 64GB) as well as from 512GB NVMe SSD. On the technical front, this little computer is superior to many other alternatives in circulation: obviously, it cannot necessarily boast dedicated graphics, it will have to settle for the usual Intel UHD Graphics 620, a GPU that can handle 4K video playback without difficulty. But it’s not suitable for heavier titles, no matter how recent.

To stay on topic with the video, the BMAX B5 Pro It can manage up to 3 video inputs with a maximum resolution of 4K/60HZ. However, in terms of connectivity, we have the latest Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 standards.

performance and standards

I don’t want to wander around too much and I don’t want to keep you on your toes: despite the hardware I just told you about, the BMAX mini-computer in terms of pure performance cannot be a dragon, but let’s be clear. It is a suitable computer for more traditional office, student, multimedia and management operations. The contexts in which these mini computers are most successful are precisely these, it is no coincidence that it is very common to find solutions of this kind in the computer rooms of a school or university, in the back office of a department store to manage inventories, invoices and invoices for large orders or Simply behind the TV at home to use as a true multimedia hub where you can play movies or turn a non-smart TV originally.

What might be useful for you to know in these circumstances is certainly a performance comparison between it (and its hardware) and some other gamers who, as I said, often ram the Celeron N5095: in that case, if you’re looking for a small-PC lend this BMAX B5 Pro A suitable solution can be purely numerically, because in a single core it gets about 500 points of difference compared to a solution with Celeron and in a multi-core it gets up to 1000 points of difference.

Very good temperature management, which was put under stress for about 15 minutes using GeekBench, which despite the CPU peaking up to 90 degrees, the system was always silent and there was no sign of throttling. Moreover, the good work done by the manufacturer in terms of dissipation is evident, precisely because by default the computer turns the fan in two ways: the conservative one that makes the fan spin very slowly and not at all make us aware that it is on, and more aggressive when it is Muscle stretching is needed. Also in those cases thanks to the carriers made of copper and aluminum, the dissipation is very fast.

On the other hand, the internal memory performance is superior to any other mini PC: while on average the read and write values for conventional SSDs do not exceed 500-600 MB / s, here we reach 2200 MB / s and exceed it in reading and even about 2000 In writing, values about 4 times that of competitors.

Despite all this, the BMAX PC remains ideal for multimedia use in 4K video playback (above example of 4 4K videos playing on YouTube with my 34 21:9 monitor attached), a little less in the video editing area where it will always be preferred To have a decent dedicated video card, not the best for the gaming sector if not for some slightly simpler titles.

Price and considerations

We have come to the price because it is certainly the most important aspect: the list price costs around 400 euros, with some discounts and offers it is often around 350 euros and is certainly a balanced price for various reasons. First of all, if we want to build a computer with the same characteristics ourselves, we may spend a few tens of euros less, but we will not get the advantages of a solution like this, that is, very compact, silent, and portable.

After all, those who buy a product like this do so out of space, and not really for other reasons.
