Android apps arrive in Windows 11, soon also in Italy

One of the biggest new features in Windows 11 is Android apps supportwhich allows users to run apps designed for Google’s mobile operating system directly on their PC.

However, the release of Android apps to Windows 11 is happening gradually, and the software giant announced this week that more users will finally have access to this highly anticipated feature later this year.

“The Amazon Appstore Preview on Windows 11 is currently available in the US and will expand to five additional countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the UK, by the end of this year,” says Microsoft.

The Android experience on Windows 11 is supported by Amazon Appstore. While the downloads are from the Microsoft Store, the links are from the Amazon Appstore, though users can also manually install APK files using various other methods.

Microsoft recently announced a number of improvements to Android apps in Windows 11, including not only support for Android 12.1, but also a redesign of the Settings app.

The Android Settings Windows Subsystem app has been redesigned and updated in a major way. We’ve redesigned the app from the ground up, now with clearer sets of settings, bulk navigation, and a cleaner overall user experience. We’ve also added a diagnostic data viewer where you can look at all the data Diagnostics collected by the subsystem and configuration options in the new compatibility settings to trigger fixes for specific apps such as forcing apps not to resize or enabling per-key swipes.” Microsoft says.

While Microsoft says expanded availability will happen later this year, The release is likely to happen with Windows 11 build 22H2 debuting.
