“This man was simply doing his job (…) Today, he has not returned. “He was killed as part of this tax audit,” said Public Accounts Minister Gabriel Attal, who spoke in the middle of the evening before the Senate.
He said the victim, a 43-year-old man, was the head of the verification brigade in Pas-de-Calais.
The man was killed by “several stab wounds,” a source close to the investigation had previously indicated.
This source added that a “woman, a tax inspector” was found at the scrap dealer’s house, “tied to a chair and very shocked.”
For his part, the scrap dealer said he “committed suicide,” according to a second source close to the investigation, stating that the public finance employee and his colleague were locked up in the scrap dealer’s house.
She explained that “at the time of the arrival of the gendarmerie, the two men were dead,” confirming that the gendarmerie had been warned “by a witness.”
The research department of the Gendarmerie de Hauper de France has been captured.
“His colleagues from the Pas-de-Calais department of public finance and in general all public finance staff are upset and saddened this evening,” said Mr. Atal, referring to an “unspeakable tragedy.”
He said he would be there on Tuesday morning.
“Public service tonight has the face of this brigade commander,” he insisted, before inviting a moment of contemplation “in honoring him.”
The firefighters, who were called around 7:00 pm, confirmed at the beginning of the evening “two people dead in Bolecour and one injured on the verge of being transported”, explaining that the intervention “is still in progress”.
At around 11:00 p.m., the gendarmes were still deployed in the village of Bolecour, deserted that evening, and blocked the street from the used-things dealer’s house, an AFP journalist noted. The village, with a population of 250, is located south of Arras.
The Public Prosecutor of Arras was publishing a press release this evening.
In contact with Agence France-Presse, the mayor of the city, the governorate and the gendarmerie did not respond, waiting for this message from the prosecution.
